Stop at Orosei - not the best little village and everything was closed
town Hall - view from where we stopped for tea.
left rather soon heading for St Maria Navarrese
some greenery where we stopped to admire the surroundings
trying out my tripod
very mountainous! not what I expected of Sardinia
road through the mountains
solid lines in the road did NOT mean "no overtaking".
was most impressed by the tunnel

The roads were lined with Pricky pears
Prickly pear cactus
Stopped over when we saw an awesome beach on the way to Villasimius - near Casa di Marina
The water so blue and clear
awesome beaches - only about 8 people on the beach (including naked couple)
our little car
Different blues!
absolutely beautiful beaches and turquoise water
One of my favourite photos
we had some people arrive via boat
on route to Villasimius
just look at that blue clear water
yet another picture of the ocean!
my artistic shot of Josie and view from the car window
another Tripod special.......
quite a windy day - tried to capture the wind
we stopped to take more photos
Another favourite
very windy day !!
awesome views - and it was like this all the way to Villasimius
after we arrived at Villasimius, went for a drive - this is Villasimius harbour
local beach at Villasimius
went for a drive looking for some tea
Another view of the local beach - we never got a chance to swim here - we left the next day for costa verde.
lagoon with pink flamingoes (like the Pan in Welkom)
Another shot of the lagoon
views from the car window - went for a drive for tea
car speedometer - started on 6600km (rather a new car)
we could not find a place open for tea - but the views were great and well worth the drive
3 flags - EU, Italian and Sardinia
Eventually found a sailing club open.
Sardinian Traditional dress
Just outside Villasimius we had spotted the beach during our drive for some tea, where we wanted to spend most of the day.
some waves - not very common in Sardinia
Again a windy day, so we found ourselves an awesome spot inbetween the rocks.

Large Bedroom windows - with the statue in the background
the next day we headed to costa Verde - driving through the old mining town
Inland from Piscinas, the mine shafts and buildings in and around the hill town of Montevecchio are a legacy of its once thriving industy
mine shafts
The windy road leading to Costa Verde
Very narrow road - no wonder we came across an accident
the accident which we needed to overtake - right on the edge of the cliff
not sure why this was built
like a bridge
stream which once must have been used by the mining industry
the once used mine shaft
absolute Ghost town
They once mined Lead and Zinc
Costa Verde - remarkably unspoilt by tourism.
the name (green coast) alludes to the macchia which carpets the dunes and rocks.
The beaches are stunning. Piscinas beach has 9km of sands, with huge dunes rising up to 50m.
I ran along the beach - ran for about an hour. Not ideal for the knees but awesome!
Beach and sand dunes
deck chairs and unbrellas - Euro 10
Again we enjoyed some waves - huge waves that you could body surf (like old times in East London with Dad)
Our spot on the beach
the only development long this remote, desert like landscape is the chic Hotel Le Dune, converted from an old mine building.
Oristano from a distance - our drive back after our day spent on the beach at Costa Verde

The most spectacular of Sardinia's caves
Josie going through a very low passage
Since the first mention of this fairytale cavern in the 18th century, writers and travellers have extolled its virtues
Anther view inside
in the 19th century, sailors used to illuminate the deep cave with candles and at one time it became the setting for candlelit concerts
but today it is lit by electricity
almost looks like a sculpture within the cave
really beautiful inside the cave
